A Journey of Culture and Compassion

MY Name is Franky D’souza I am an accredited registrant of the National Counselling & Psychotherapist Society and U.K.C.P. Based in North London, I am committed to supporting individuals on their journey towards mental and emotional well-being.

Discover a therapy experience that’s curious, compassionate, and culturally informed. As a South Asian therapist, I understand the delicate balance between cultural expectations and personal identity. Growing up in a South Asian household, I experienced the pressures of tradition and family expectations, which shaped my understanding of belonging and individuality. This journey has instilled in me a deep compassion for working with people from all backgrounds, respecting the unique nuances that culture brings into our lives.

We all begin our stories in the homes we are born into, and our culture plays a significant role in shaping who we are. This awareness allows me to create a safe, non-judgmental space where your unique experiences are honored, whether you’re from a background similar to mine or from a completely different one. Together, we’ll explore your challenges with care and curiosity, helping you grow, heal, and thrive. Reach out today to begin your journey.

Couples Therapy: Strengthen Your Relationship

Are you feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns in your relationship? Good relationships are vital for our well-being, but they can sometimes be difficult to navigate. It's normal to experience ups and downs, but when challenges become overwhelming, communication can break down. That’s where couples therapy can help. As a qualified and passionate therapist, I offer a safe, impartial space to help you and your partner understand each other better, improve communication, and break the cycle of hurt. My approach focuses not on blame, but on fostering understanding and creating healthier ways of relating. I am trained in a developmental model of relationships, which enables me to guide you through the different stages of your partnership and help you uncover any hidden dynamics that may be causing difficulties. Together, we can explore the subconscious behaviour’s influencing your relationship and work toward permanent positive change.

Who is Couples Therapy For?

Couples therapy is for any couple, at any stage of their relationship, who may be experiencing difficulties or simply want to improve their communication and understanding of each other. Whether you're married, living together, long-term partners, companions, separated, or divorced, couples therapy can offer valuable support. I have extensive experience helping couples navigate a wide range of challenges, including: - Affairs and betrayal - Separation and divorce - Parenting and stepfamily dynamics - Communication issues - Life transitions like bereavement, retirement, or redundancy - The impact of trauma If you're facing challenges or looking to strengthen your relationship, couples therapy can offer you the guidance and tools to reconnect and build a stronger, more fulfilling partnership.

Group Therapy

You’re not alone. Group therapy offers a powerful space for connection, insight, and support. In group therapy, up to eight adults meet weekly with a qualified therapist in a safe, confidential setting. This space is designed for people experiencing psychological distress who are open to exploring their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours alongside others facing similar challenges. Rooted in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, the group focuses on the here and now, while also reflecting on how past experiences shape current difficulties. Together, group members and the therapist explore relational patterns, emotional responses, and coping styles in real time. The aim of group therapy is not to eliminate life’s challenges, but to strengthen your resilience—to help you face problems and frustrations with greater self-awareness and confidence. Group therapy may suit you if: • You feel isolated or disconnected in your struggles. • You want to explore your difficulties with others who understand. • You’re looking for a different or complementary approach to individual therapy. Group therapy can help with: • Depression • Anxiety • Relationship difficulties • Post-traumatic symptoms If you're curious about how group therapy might support you, feel free to get in touch to find out more.

What’s the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

Counselling

Very simply it could be said that counselling is a short-term therapy, or what is brought into the therapy room is material that does not require deep long-term exploration but more straight forward approaches to resolving ongoing issues, which could be worked with relatively well by the client independently from the therapist.

Psychotherapy

This mode of therapy is generally considered as long term, which can be anywhere from one month to several years. With this way of working the client and therapist begin to form an enriching therapeutic working relationship, and work toward trust, congruence and a sense of oneness in order to find the causes of tension within the psyche.
